Would You Sell Your Blog For $500,000?

 



A blogger I’ve recently come across and started reading more from posed the question yesterday, “Should I sell Blog Tyrant for $500,000?” If you’re one of those working to make money blogging, or just blogging for fun, it’s an interesting question to entertain.


BlogTyrant.com is a couple year old blog written by Ramsay, and focuses on helping people get the most from their blogging efforts. I’m not sure of their traffic, but based on the feedback, comments and search engine links, it seems pretty popular and well received. Not bad for a 2 year old site.


Back to the question, though, would you sell your blog for $500,000? What about $100,000? A lot of it, of course, depends on where you’re at in your blogging journey. Some of you would be happy getting $1k out of your struggling blog. Others wouldn’t settle for $500k.



 

The amount isn’t important. What is, is the process you should think about when considering selling a blog, or really any Internet property for that matter. Ramsay covers some important things to consider:


How much your blog is worth to a potential buyer – He gives a really simple calculation for figuring this out.

What you need to do if you decide to sell – He’s got some great advice here. This also applies to the reverse, for those looking to buy a blog.

Everyone gets wrapped up in the rags to riches stories of those who started a blog on a shoestring and sold for hundreds of thousands of dollars. The reality is, that doesn’t happen as often as the gurus would have you believe. I’d encourage you to think more logically about your blog (not with the starry eyed stare of $$$), and how it fits into your overall online business strategy.
