The One Question That Can Make You Happier AND More Productive

I recently read an article on CBS’ Money Watch titled How to balance work and life. I come across a lot of these and try to read them all because I’m always wanting to improve. Oftentimes you get just that one little tip or tidbit that can make you more efficient or do things better.

This particular article was short, but mighty helpful with some great thoughts and a great approach to being more productive.

The absolute most important paragraph from the entire thing was this:

Unfortunately, much like losing weight, there is no magic pill you can take that allows you to achieve a zen state at work and home. When I start to get overwhelmed, I ask myself the following question: Is this important?

That final question is the key…”Is this important?”

I don’t know about you, but my To Do list is full at the start of every day. Things I think I need to accomplish to feel good about the day and have a sense of accomplishment when the day is over. Yet looking at it right now, with that one burning question in mind, I have to say at least half of it I’d answer “no” to that question.

It’s interesting. The more time management, efficiency and life goal accomplishment stuff I read, the more I find it boils down to focusing on the right thing(s). NOT trying to do more with less time.

There are some other great thoughts, questions, and tips in  the article. I strongly encourage you to jump over and give it a quick read here: How to balance work and life.
